Traveling to a new place can make you cling to your possessions – yet how do you pack light when it is winter outside and you and your sister have a winter get-a-way planned? Packing light is a necessity nowadays with shrinking baggage allowances in airlines. You want to travel as light as possible, so you're not bogged down by your luggage. You also want to save enough space in your suitcase to fit your travel souvenirs and accommodate your travel buys. So how do you pack all you need but still save space? We offer you packing hacks that will help you optimize your luggage.

  • Think Layered Clothes–Nothing spells travel wear like layered clothing. Instead of packing bulky winterwear, opt for layers that you can cover up in when cold and shed in warm weather. Layers are trendy and space-saving all at the same time.

  • Wear your Heaviest Clothing Items on Your Person– Why pack a pair of heavy boots when you can simply wear them? You can take them off after you’ve boarded your flight. You will bring the weight of your luggage down this way and not have to worry about injuring yourself carrying all that heavy baggage around.

  • Roll, roll, roll– Some people swear by folding and stacking their clothes, but the best way to save space is by rolling them tightly. You can also invest in air-tight bags that suck out extra air and enable you more space in your suitcase or packing cubes. Breakable items should be packed within clothing rolls to keep them secure.

  • Pack Clever– Utilize your jacket pockets, shoes and bags while packing. When packing those much needed socks, don't pack them separately – instead, stuff them inside your shoes. Similarly, shove your underwear inside any bags you might be carrying inside your suitcase and your hankies inside your jacket pockets.

  • Switch to an e-book reader– Carrying hardbacks on your travels make little sense when you can access multiple titles on an e-book reader.
Implement these suggestions and see the difference it makes to your luggage. Packing light is an art form learned over time and experience and taking these suggestion will have you packing like a professional traveller in no time.
